Jessica Leigh Gokey is a Native American beadwork artist. She is from the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe near Hayward, WI and currently resides in Minnesota with her husband and two children.
Traditional beadwork was passed down to Jessica from her Aunt. She has been beading for over 10 years and has perfected her technique by learning from other artists and elders who shared their advice and techniques.
Jessica combines her innate talent with traditional forms and her beautiful sense of color. Jessica’s designs take hundreds of hours to complete and whereas beadwork is often viewed as a craft (or a form of folk art), her beadwork is so breathtaking, it is considered a fine art.
Jessica’s dedication to her art helps to ensure that traditional beadwork as an art form, will live on for future generations. To learn more about Jessica and her journey, visit her website at: https://www.jessicaleighgokey.com.
