Al Agnew

Elizabeth's Studio

Al Agnew is passionate about nature and art. Growing up in the Missouri Ozarks, he explored the rivers and hills, bringing home creatures to study and draw. Despite teaching art for seven years, he continued studying nature and portraying his experiences. In 1983, he pursued art full-time, splitting his time between the Ozarks and Montana with his wife, Mary. His travels from Alaska to Africa have inspired his award-winning paintings. Al aims to capture nature's beauty, studying animals in the wild to understand their habitats. While he uses captive animals as references, he believes familiarity with wildlife is essential. Al is known for his paintings of North American and African animals, especially birds and mammals, and his dynamic fish paintings reflect his passion for fishing. An ardent conservationist, Al has raised millions for organizations like Ducks Unlimited and the Wolf Recovery Project. He has been a "Featured Artist" at prestigious shows and exhibited internationally, including at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum and the Society of Animal Artists. He painted in Zimbabwe with the Malila Ngwe Artist Trust. His work has appeared in various magazines, and he has created over 125 catalog covers for Bass Pro Shops.
